Group Contest!

[EDIT] Several people have asked, and no, there is no limit on how many times you submit to the contest. You can put in as many ponies as you want.

In addition, I chose to make it other people's OC's because it is more challenging to make a design for someone else than it is for yourself.

Also: Please do not use this journal to ask people to make your OC. If they want to make it, then they'll ask. Thank you.


Hello! Because of the surplus of points given by our wonderful members when getting a renewed super group, we have decided to hold a contest to give the points back to the community!

The contest is going to be for Gala outfit designs! Now, I know the Royal Wedding is coming up, but the outfits have already been released for the mane six, as well as many of the background characters. So this is going to be for the next year's Grand Galloping Gala.

There will be two categories, and three grand prizes!

First, canon character designs. This means the mane six or any canon background character. This includes Zecora, Bonbon, Lyra, Derpy, Dizzy Twister, anyone you think deserves a design to wear to the Gala!

And there will be a prize for the best canon design overall- which will be from background AND main characters. Main characters are the following:
Twilight Sparkle
Rarity
Applejack
Rainbow Dash
Pinkie Pie
Fluttershy
Spike
Princess Celestia
Princess Luna

The prize for overall will be 1,000 Points!

Anyone else would count as a "Background Character".

Which leads to the second prize! In addition to the overall, there will be a second prize of 1,000 points for the best Background Character design. The characters do not have to be all ponies, but they do have to be canon, which means they are in the show.

If the character you are putting in is somewhat unheard of, please provide a screenshot in your artists' description of their appearance in the show. Other than that, it can be anyone!

And finally, the second category is for Original Characters. The prize for the best Original Character design is 1,200 Points!

The rules for this category are particular:

You cannot submit a design for your own character. You must make someone else's character a design to enter. Make sure that you get permission to use the OC and make the design. Not everyone might want their character in the contest. Make sure you get permission before you start!

Multiple people can make a design for one character. So if more than one person asks you to make a design, it's perfectly fine. In addition, the OC must belong to a current member of Deviant ART. No one who has deactivated and not made a new account, or banned member's characters.

Once again: You must make a design for a character that is not your own. It must be a character who belongs to someone else, and you MUST get permission from the owner before you start.

So, a breakdown:

-Canon character design overall- 1,000 points

--Background characters - 1,000 points

It'd be easy to just pick a mane six, so a second first prize will go to whomever makes the best background character. The overall will count both mane six+ Spike AND background characters.

-OC design- 1,200 points

-- It has to be someone ELSE'S OC for your design. It can be anyone's OC you want, but you have to ask first. Multiple people can pick the same OC as long as there's no outfit design duplicates. OC owners have every right to say no. Make sure you get full permission BEFORE starting.

There are TWO new folders for you to submit to. They are titled "Gala Contest", and within it "OC Gala Contest Designs". Everything that isn't an OC should just go into the "Gala Contest" folder. The Quality Standard will be waved for the contest, so everyone at any art level can join.

The contest will be running until

September First

, so you will all have plenty of time to work on them.

We have not yet decided on the judges, but they will probably be some of our moderators, or we will pick people who will not be participating.
